The Polyglot Behind the Planning: Jia Li
I’m here to help you see your dreams come true, and I know firsthand what it feels like to not know where to go, when to study, what to study, or how to study in order to achieve my goals.
I started learning Mandarin Chinese when I was 10 years old, and it took me 6 years to finally get to the C1 level that I am at today. But it was definitely not easy…
After my Chinese tutor for 2 years moved back to China, I was left to study on my own. I loved the language and definitely didn’t want to stop learning it, but I didn’t know the first thing about picking my own materials, setting aside time to study, and giving myself homework assignments.
It took me 4 years to come up with a vocabulary study method, listening comprehension drills, creative practice exercises, and most of all, a study plan that was personal to me and my goals.
For the 4 years prior, I was relying on how everyone else learned and didn’t know the first thing about how to make my language learning personal — as in, I didn’t know how to make it geared towards my goals, my preferences, my strengths, and my courses.
I’m here with the hopes that I can spare you from the same pain. Don’t spend 4 years (or more!) trying to figure out how to learn a language — spend those years actually learning it.
